Stirling’s Autumn Garden Festival, to be held this year on Sunday May 5, is one
of the most popular Adelaide Hills’ events, attended by thousands of locals and
visitors who gather to celebrate the best of autumn and the colours of the Hills.
It is a wonderful celebration of gardens, gardening and outdoor living. Along with
Druid Avenue, Stirling’s main thoroughfare, Mt Barker Road, will be closed to
traffic and the festivities spill over into the grassed parks and lawn areas.
Enquires can be directed to the Festival Director, Tracey Spokes on

In 2012, Adelaide Hills Council was successful in gaining a
State Government Blackspot Grant to upgrade the
intersection of Avenue Road, Ayers Hill Road and Milan
Terrace at Stirling. Council is contributing one third of the
cost of the $600,000 project.
This location has the highest rate of serious injury crashes
of any Council road in the district, and has long been in
need of improvement. Residents and visitors will be
delighted to see that work is well underway. Total
construction is expected to take around seven weeks.
The new roundabout will make travel through the
intersection safer overall, improving visibility of
approaching vehicles from each direction and creating a
low speed environment. Pedestrians will also benefit, as
there will be defined crossing points and better
connections to existing footpaths.
Construction work will involve demolition, excavation of
existing embankments, building of the new roundabout
and kerbing, installing new footpaths and landscaping. This
will include planting new deciduous trees so that in the long
term mature oaks will continue all the way to Mt Barker
Road.
Council has developed a construction programme that
will minimise the disruption to the community as much as
possible. Individual road closures lasting between one and
three weeks will be made along each leg of the intersection,
and eventually a full shut-down of the intersection will
happen late in the project to allow for placement of final
road surface. Clearly marked detours will be in place during
the works.
Access will be maintained at all times to all local homes
and businesses, and works will be scheduled to allow the
monthly Druid Avenue Markets and the Stirling Autumn
Garden Festival to proceed as usual. Close neighbours
have been an integral part of the design and scheduling
process, with much consultation undertaken.
Details of the detours are available from Council’s website
ing updated regularly as works
progress.
Adelaide Hills Council appreciates your patience while
these vital safety improvements are undertaken. If you
have any queries, please contact us on 8408 0400.
