Make sure you’re all sorted during National Recycling Week (7–13

November) with these tips:

1. Don’t bin your bags

– plastic bags should go in your red

bin only. Bags get tangled around machinery and can cause

2. Quick rinse then recycle

– it’s easier to recycle containers

that are empty and free of food pieces. It will also minimise

any odour in your bin;

3. You CAN recycle your cans

– all empty steel, aluminium

and aerosol cans should go in your yellow bin;

4. Think outside the bin

– visit

www.recyclingnearyou.com.au

for local ways to recycle other common household items like

reading glasses, x-rays, batteries and light globes.

Recycle Right because it’s the right thing to do.

HOLLOWS AS HOMES

Many animals rely on tree hollows

for shelter and nests, but in urban

areas like ours, tree hollows are in

short supply.

used by wildlife across Sydney, a new

community research project, Hollows

as Homes, is calling on your help.

Participation is easy! Simply check

the trees in your backyard, street,

park or local bushland, and report the

number of hollows on your computer,

phone or tablet. Your assistance

will help Council in its plans to keep

important habitat trees or plant more.

MAP YOUR FOX SIGHTING

Have you seen a fox in your local area? Record your fox sighting on

the FoxScan website and help prevent the damage caused by foxes.

Using your information, Council can continue to protect threatened

native species and make better decisions about fox control.

To map your sighting, go to

www.foxscan.org.au

or download

the FoxScan mobile app.

more than 230 native

bird species.

PUT A FREEZE ON YOUR

ENERGY BILL

Did you know running a second

fridge adds around $300 to

your power bill? If you have

an old fridge or freezer sitting

around your home, consider

trading it in with Fridge Buyback. Fridge Buyback’s removalists will

collect, degas and recycle your old fridge or freezer for free, as long

as the removal doesn’t involve going up or down more than six

stairs. You may also be eligible to receive a $25 rebate!

Getting rid of that spare fridge will not only save money on your

power bill, but save the environment from one tonne of carbon

pollution each year.
